What is EMDR?

Developed by Francine Shapiro in the 1980s, EMDR is a therapeutic technique that helps you develop resources to process traumatic memories. In the eight phases of treatment, we will make sure you have proper support and are stable enough to begin to delve into memory work. Then, we’ll help you integrate the experience as part of a trauma-informed, psychodynamic model of psychotherapy. Essentially, it’s relationship-based therapy with a tool in the mix. We don’t have to do EMDR every time. EMDR is a form of energy work that focuses on body sensations, feelings, beliefs, and images that are "frozen in time". Together, we will unthaw these overwhelming experiences and allow new learning to take place in a safe, supportive therapy space. Getting EMDR therapy from a certified EMDR therapist in Seattle can make the difference between reducing symptoms and going further on your healing path.

What is an intensive?

You’ve been doing weekly therapy for a while now, and it’s taking such a long time to get to the core of things. After the initial life check-in, there’s not much time left to process your memories until the hour is up and you come back again in a week. EMDR intensives circumvent this common issue in the traditional treatment model by giving us more time to get to the heart of the matter and finish processing an experience. It’s incredible what we can get through with an extra hour or two, and there is plenty of time for breaks. Intensives are billed at $150/hour.

EMDR intensives are not recommended for people with dissociative disorders, as long-term, psychodynamic therapy has proven to be more effective.
